The Perry County Sheriff's Office welcomes a new deputy, Lauren Smoyer.
Deputy Smoyer was born in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in Bluffton, South Carolina.
After high school, she joined the Army National Guard, completing basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. She began a position as a security guard on Daufuskie Island, where she met her husband, Mark, who has a daughter, Savannah. They now have a son, Bryce, and another daughter, Harper.
After working as an emergency dispatcher for five years, Smoyer became a police officer in Hardeeville, South Carolina, where she served for two and a half years as a patrol officer and school resource officer.
A year and a half ago, Mark transferred to Nashville with his job. They lived in Clarksville while searching for their "forever property," which they found in Perry County. They now live in Linden on 27 acres and a growing "funny farm," as they like to call it.
Deputy Smoyer recently completed Tennessee post certification at TLETA and looks forward to continuing her law enforcement career in Perry County.
