LINDEN, TN- Today, a Linden Middle School student made a threat to another student in regards to bringing a gun to school and doing a school shooting. The Perry County Sheriff was notified by Superintendent Eric Lomax.
The Sheriff assigned Lt. Josh Duke and SRO Joe Donaldson to conduct an investigation into the allegations. After numerous interviews, the PCSO will be charging a 12yr old white male student , for threats of mass violence on school property.
The superintendent of Schools has also expelled the juvenile from the school and property for 3 days and ordered the juvenile to be in alternative school for the remainder of the year.
Perrt County Sheriff Nick Weems said "As Sheriff, I feel that we must take all threats serious and punish accordingly to those who create fear in our school and our community. In this day and time, it is never acceptable to joke or insinuate any violence directed towards the safety of our children.
Moving forward, it is my hope that parents educate their children on the severity of these allegations. In Perry County, we will not tolerate it. Period. "
Director Lomax said,
“I appreciate Sheriff Weems and his officers for their quick action and thorough investigation. The Perry County School System along with the Perry County Sheriff’s Department is going to do everything in our power to keep our students, faculty and staff safe. I’m thankful for the great partnership we have with the Sheriff’s Department. “
I commend the young person who bravely put out the first notice. I want to remind everyone if you hear or see something, it’s always the right thing to come forward. You could be saving more lives than you know, including your own.
